A large proportion of referrals to Children’s Services arise from mental health problems experienced by parents. The course examines the legal and practice frameworks of both services, and how to promote better understanding and effective joint working between the services.

‘Understanding and Working with Personality Disorders’ Juliette Merrett

The course introduces the concept of a disorder of personality and examines the relationship with mental disorder or mental illness. Diagnosis and classification of personality disorder are considered, as are the dilemmas posed to clinicians in these areas.

Professional roles in diagnosis, care and treatment are outlined, with reference to Department of Health plans for the development of a comprehensive service.

This course examines both the theory and practice of the Recovery Model in mental health, which is central to effective work with people experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties.

The concept of social inclusion is central to the course, together with holistic care planning and working in partnership with users of mental health services, their carers and other support networks.
