‘Communication, Negotiation and Assertion’ Juliette Merrett

This course aims to give participants a model for understanding and practising the skills necessary for successful communication, negotiation and assertion. From this, to apply the understanding and model to 1) practitioners’ own personal and professional lives and 2) to enable practitioners to teach these skills to their clients.

‘Understanding Stress’ Juliette Merrett

This course is designed to give participants a model for understanding the various presentations of stress and related anxiety. From this, to apply the understanding to 1) practitioners’ own personal and professional lives and 2) to enable practitioners to help their clients to deal with stress and anxiety.

‘Time Management and Work / Life Balance’ Juliette Merrett

This course aims to enable participants, often working in pressured practice environments, to maximise the effectiveness of their time at work. As part of this, to ensure that stress levels do not become too high and avoid the risks of ‘burn-out’ to both the individual and the organisation.

‘Men in Caring Roles’ Peter Sadler

This course highlights the specific contribution made by men who do care work. The majority of our prison, offending and special needs population is men. We draw attention to the need for positive male role models in care, how that is practiced and how men can effectively work alongside women in this work.

‘Compassion Fatigue And Secondary Trauma’ Lori Goossen

This course aims to provide social workers with the knowledge they need to identify and mitigate the risk of compassion fatigue and secondary trauma arising from their work.

The course looks at indicators of secondary trauma; the impact personally, professionally, on the organisation, and on the service user.
