UNDERSTANDING AND RESPONDING TO CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
TRAINER :
Tom Owens is an experienced, professionally qualified social worker and trainer, specialising in child protection. He has worked in social work and education settings for over twenty years as a practitioner and Manager. Tom has been designing and delivering child protection training since 1995 and has been involved in writing child protection procedures for two local authorities.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES :
This course aims to promote a better understanding of child sexual abuse in order to assist those working with children to improve the quality of their interventions.
On completion of this course candidates will have a better understanding of:
- The nature and prevalence of child sexual abuse.
- Grooming and what this means for children.
- The impact of sexual abuse for the child and their family.
- The system responses to disclosure.
- Ways of reducing the risk of abuse in organisations.
DURATION OF COURSE :
One whole day (9.30 - 4.30 with breaks)
NUMBERS :
Between 12 and 20 participants.
TARGET AUDIENCE :
This course is aimed at anyone who works with children in a professional or voluntary capacity.

Comprehensive PowerPoint presentation, combined with interactive work with course participants, including small and larger group exercises.
